{"id":5188,"date":"2022-11-30T11:09:02","date_gmt":"2022-11-30T11:09:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.surveycrest.com\/blog\/?p=5188"},"modified":"2022-11-30T11:24:22","modified_gmt":"2022-11-30T11:24:22","slug":"donald-trump-and-elon-musk-relationship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.surveycrest.com\/blog\/donald-trump-and-elon-musk-relationship\/","title":{"rendered":"From Bromance To Beefing: Inside Donald Trump And Elon Musk\u2019s Love-Hate Relationship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Elon Musk bought out Twitter last month, and since then it has been a ridiculous ride.<\/p>\n<p>He has thrown many tantrums since then, which have affected a lot of lives.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2022 He fired almost half of the  Twitter workforce;<\/li>\n<li>\u2022 Threatened the other half to work  long, grueling, thankless hours or get fired;<\/li>\n<li>\u2022 Forced remote workers to return to  desks or suffer the same fate; and,<\/li>\n<li>\u2022 Saw hate speech and mis- and disinformation rising on Twitter and did nothing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But that\u2019s not all.<\/p>\n<p>On Nov 19, he did something that we all feared he might do, but were hoping he\u2019d be decent and sane enough not to.<\/p>\n<p>Alas, no. On Saturday,  he launched a poll on Twitter, asking its users whether Donald Trump should be  allowed back on Twitter or not. On paper, they shouldn\u2019t be best friends. Their core beliefs do not match. Elon Musk is an environmental evangelist and Trump thinks climate change is a hoax.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, they were the best of chums back in the day. Supporting each other\u2019s causes and celebrating each other\u2019s victories.<\/p>\n<p>However, it didn\u2019t start  that way. In 2016, as the US presidential race was in its most heated phase,  Musk threw in his lot with candidate Hilary Clinton. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2016\/11\/04\/donald-trumps-character-reflects-poorly-on-united-states-says-elon-musk.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">didn\u2019t believe Trump\u2019s character reflected all that well  on the U.S<\/a>. He didn\u2019t consider him the right guy for the job.<\/p>\n<p>And was always  very vocal about his beliefs.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The AEI meeting wasn&#8217;t secret and I was only there for a few hours to talk about Mars and sustainable energy. While Trump doesn\u2019t  believe in climate change, he\u2019s a big fan of space exploration. During this  time as president, he favored ventures and companies, such as Musk\u2019s SpaceX, to  do exactly that.<\/p>\n<p>In return, Musk held his end of the bargain.<\/p>\n<h2>January 2017: Musk supports Trump\u2019s Secretary of State nominee, former ExxonMobil CEO<\/h2>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This may sound surprising coming from me, but I agree with The Economist. It didn\u2019t sit well with Elon Musk who wants the global economy to run on clean energy. The guy has an EV company to run, after all.<\/p>\n<h2>June 2017: Musk Cuts Ties From The White House<\/h2>\n<p>The temperamental billionaire could not sit on his hands while another excitable billionaire undid his years of work. Apparently, the two remained on good terms. Musk even learned to trash talk people online, Trump-style.<\/p>\n<h2>Dec 2017: Musk Began Calling People Names Online<\/h2>\n<p>He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/07\/16\/british-diver-mulls-legal-action-after-elon-musk-calls-him-pedo-guy.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">called a British diver \u2018pedo\u2019<\/a> when he  criticized Musk\u2019s mini-submarine technology. Later, he called another expert  idiot in response to his online criticism.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">You\u2019re an idiot<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/941500121564332032?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 15, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>January 2020: Trump Hails The \u2018Genius\u2019 That\u2019s Elon Musk<\/h2>\n<p>While talking to CNBC,  Trump made their bromance public by calling Musk \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/01\/22\/trump-likens-elon-musk-to-thomas-edison-as-one-of-our-great-geniuses.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">one of our great geniuses<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n<h2>In the interview, Trump also said:<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI spoke to him very recently, and he\u2019s also doing the rockets. He likes rockets. And he does good at rockets, too, by the way. I never saw where the engines come down with no wings, no anything, and they\u2019re landing. I said I\u2019ve never seen that before.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>May 2020: the two bonded over their refusal to comply with Covid-19 health protocols<\/h2>\n<p>In the wake of the global coronavirus pandemic, the entire world had ceased its normal functions to ensure the safety of the masses. The government had declared emergency orders and all but essential activities were asked to be shut down.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2020\/05\/11\/musk-tesla-factory\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Elon Musk made headlines<\/a> by refusing to follow  these orders, and reopened his Fermont, California Tesla factory.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Tesla is restarting production today against Alameda County rules. But Musk wasn\u2019t done. To show his disapproval at being asked to follow rules like everybody else, he threatened to move his company headquarters from California to another state like Texas or Nevada, and may even shut down the California factory. They weren\u2019t really buddy-buddy  then. But it wasn\u2019t that easy.<\/p>\n<p>Trump had refused to accept the election results and his superfans had stormed the US Capitol building. Many of them were fearing that the buyout would mean a reinstated Trump account. A few weeks later, he made those fears come true.<\/p>\n<h2>May 2022: Musk Says He Would Lift  Trump\u2019s Twitter Ban<\/h2>\n<p>Talking to a Financial  Times virtual conference, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/2bf4e8db-e35c-40fd-9fdc-bfff6745e90f\">expressed his fury about the ban<\/a>. He called it  a mistake, a morally bad decision, and \u2018foolish to the extreme\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cI do think  that it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. His first order of business was to fire almost half of company employees, and threaten the rest.<\/p>\n<p>But Trump approved.<\/p>\n<h2>October 2022: \u201cTwitter Is Now In Sane Hands\u201d.<\/h2>\n<p>Writing on his Truth Social  profile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/10\/28\/trump-says-twitter-is-now-in-sane-hands-with-musk.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Trump said<\/a>,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very happy that Twitter is now in sane hands, and will no longer be run by Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He went on to say, \u201cTwitter must now work hard to rid itself of all of the bots and fake accounts that have hurt it so badly.
